Ask a Student Veteran

Hopefully you will find useful information on a variety of topics to help you with your transition to the University of Michigan on this site and others. We also realize that some students appreciate talking to others who've "been there before" and can relate to similar life experiences. The Office of New Student Programs coordinates a Veterans Mentorship Program, and the Student Veterans who serve as Peer Mentors and Student Veteran Assistants in this program have made themselves available to answer questions from other veterans with questions about these students' personal experiences at UM.

Please do not ask specific questions about benefits or campus resources here. Rather, contact one of the many offices and departments committed to serving student veterans at the University of Michigan.

We realize that you are contacting a paid student staff member, but they will be frank, honest, and share their personal experiences with you. Keep in mind that this is the experience of the student(s) you will interact with, and other student veterans have had different experiences here/not necessarily speaking for all student veterans at the University of Michigan.
