University Mentorship

Peer Mentor

UM undergraduates may volunteer to serve. Peer Mentors play an integral role in the Mentorship Program by being the primary facilitator of small group Mentorship interactions. Being a peer mentor with the University Mentorship Program starts with a Winter term training session, and continues to December of the following Fall semester. As a peer mentor, you will be matched with a faculty or staff member here at UM according to a shared academic/career interest. The two of you will form a mentoring team to four first-year students who also share your academic interests. The Mentorship Program also sponsors several small events throughout the year that participants will be invited to. In between face-to-face meetings with your group members, you are expected to keep in regular contact through phone and e-mail.

Peer Mentor applications are available every December for the following academic year. Applications are typically due in late January, and selected applicants are invited back for individual interviews. Mentors will be notified of their acceptance into the Program in early March. For more information about the Mentorship Program or being a peer mentor, see the Mentorship section of this web site, call the office (764-6413) or e-mail us at UMmentor@umich.edu.
