2008 Mentor Incentives

Mentorship is offering incentives to Mentors to recognize their continued dedication to the program and for their contributions over the course of the semester. Learn more about these exciting opportunities at the start of fall semester.

September      Mentorship Lifetime Achievement Award        FS
Given to faculty and staff with over 10 years of mentorship involvement and awards for mentors who have participated in the program for consecutive years. Awarded yearly at the annual Mentorship Reception.

October 9             A Mentor’s Luncheon                        FS and Peer
Mentors are invited to a catered lunch designed to strengthen communication between peer and faculty/staff mentors for the semester. As a symposium and social, this event will allow mentors to air their thoughts about the program, obtain advice  and check in with Mentorship staff in a casual atmosphere. Thursday, October 9, 2008, 12-1:30pm in the Michigan Union Kuenzel Room.

Sept-Dec          Mentors of the Month (see below)         FS and Peer
Nominated by mentees and selected by Mentorship staff throughout the semester. MOTM will be announced in monthly newsletters and awarded tickets to local performances, gift certificates to Ann Arbor restaurants and other prizes. Mentees submit written nominations online. Awarded monthly.

Nov-July   You’ve Got People: The Mentor Referral Incentive    FS
Help us identify potential faculty and staff mentors! Beginning with 2008 faculty/staff recruitment, applicants who cite you as a reference on their mentor applications and who are accepted into the program will be treated to lunch or dinner with you, on us! Only current FS Mentors are eligible to refer other Mentors. Awarded November-July.

January                    Departmental Recognition                          FS

For faculty and staff who have participated in the progam, our goal is to raise awareness in academic and professional comnmunities about the work of our mentors! Announcement letters to departments will be mailed out at the beginning of winter semester, accompanied by ads in the Michigan Daily and University Record. Announced in January.

Faculty/Staff Mentor

Of the Month Award

 

All current Faculty and staff mentors are eligible for special recognition through the Faculty/Staff Mentor Of the Month Award!

 

Beginning fall 2008, faculty and staff mentors will be nominated for the award through a student of their mentor group.  Multiple nominations will be accepted and faculty and staff mentors can be nominated again during a single semester.

 

The nominations will be judged on content and the form will consist of the following questions.  Mentees will only have to answer 2 of the following questions.

 

• Describe your interactions with your faculty/staff mentor
• How has he/she improved your knowledge of campus
• How has he/she helped you transition to the University
• How has he/she helped you be successful at the University
• How has he/she enriched your understanding of multiculturalism, culture, arts, politics or current events? 

 

Awards

 

Faculty/staff mentors who are selected for the award will receive the following

• A gift certificate or gift card to a restaurant or coffee shop to further their mentoring meetings
• Certificate of Appreciation
• Letter to their college/place of employment detailing their accomplishment
