Mentorship was lucky to nab 40 seats in the newly renovated, awesomely Michigan Crisler Arena and see the Wolverines trounce the Western Michigan University Broncos in an exciting game. One of our CCs (Danielle) even managed to get on the jumbotron! Here are some of our best shots (pun intended).

MENTORSHIP DJ WORKSHOP

December 3, 2012

MIchigan League, Michigan Room

The first event of its kind for mentorship, this study break was created by current f/s mentor and professional DJ Abay Israel (DJ Adrenalin). What started out as an activity for his own group was opened to all of mentorship, the Students of Color of Rackham (graduate student organization), and Abay's own youth mentoring program Huslte&Grow. After graduating from UM with his master's in Applied Economics, Abay is now a researcher and internship coordinator for ICPSR (Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research). Read more about Abay's background, business ventures and volunteer history in the December 2012 Mentorship Newsletter. At the workshop, we learned how to construct a turntable, mix songs, count beats and what it takes to purse DJing as a hobby or career.

MENTORSHIP BACKPACKING/MAJORS ADVISING SESSION

November 29th, 2012

Newnan Academic Advising Center, Angell Hall

Keeping our theme of academic success, Mentorship holds a workshop each year to support students in the course selection process by offering a backpacking/majors advising session. Students who registered completed a survey gauging their fields of study and needs and advising staff were determined accordingly to meet these needs. Here, students can get personal assistance meeting distribution requirements, get advice from older students about UM's most unique and interesting courses, and work individually or in groups to select courses. Led by Newnan staff members Allison Grassie, former f/s mentor and Martha Kirpes, current faculty/staff mentor and supported by our experienced student staff, this was an informative event designed to reduce stress around the course selection process.

MENTORSHIP TOUR WEEK 2012

November 12-16th, 2012

Central Power Plant | Medical School | Law School

Our legendary enhanced tours continue! After the success of the School of Information tour, Mentorship planned a tour week for our students that not only showed them facilities, but were led by faculty and professionals. We toured the central power plant with guidance from our faculty/staff mentor Paul, who has inside knowledge of the facility as an experienced director. We also had tours combined with student panels, admissions directors and key faculty in the law and medical schools to help students learn about potential professional paths. What was clear from the tours was that there is no single path to admission, students come from all over the globe and have unique experiences that can lead to promising professional careers.

ANNUAL MENTORSHIP PIZZA TASTING

Highlighting all the food was an envelope-making craft (thanks to CC Rachel's love for pinterest!), board games, and donated tickets to the women's glee club performance.
