The Office of New Student Programs offers over 30 Parent & Family Orientation programs each summer. Listed below are the dates for the Parent & Family Orientation programs.
Each Parent & Family program is 2 days in length. [Please remember that the Freshman Orientation program is 3 days in length.] We understand that sometimes due to work or financial considerations, family members are unable to attend for both days of the program. We encourage you to attend as much of the program as you are able to attend. However keep in mind that the fee remains the same regardless of whether you attend one or both days of the program.
Summer Term Parent & Family Orientation Program
If your student has been admitted for the Summer Term 2019, he or she will attend Freshman Orientation on TBD. Parent & Family Orientation will occur on TBD. Summer Term classes begin on Wednesday, July 3, 2018.
If your student has been admitted to the Summer Bridge Program, he or she will not be attending orientation through the Office of New Student Programs. Please contact the Summer Bridge Program regarding parent/family programs for families of Bridge students. Families of Summer Bridge Program students are welcome to attend the Parent & Family Orientation Program offered by the Office of New Student Programs. If you are interested, please call ONSP at (734) 764-6413, and we will be happy to register you for a program by phone.
Fall Term Parent & Family Orientation Programs
If your student has been admitted for Fall Term, your student will likely attend a “Summer Freshman Orientation Program” occurring between June-early August. Each of these programs has a corresponding Parent & Family Orientation program. However, please note that your student’s program is three-days in length and the Parent & Family program is only two-days in length, so if you are making travel plans, be sure to plan around the student schedule. Dates listed below are for the Parent & Family Orientation program. Add on one additional day to determine the student program options. For example, if your program is June 18-19, your student’s program will be June 18-20.
Selecting an Orientation Date
Orientation is based upon your student’s academic advising unit. This information should be listed in the first paragraph of your student’s admission letter or email. Locate your student’s academic unit listed below. Advising units only offer orientation programs on the dates listed below. Space in each program is limited and dates are subject to change, therefore the dates listed below may not be available at the time your student registers for orientation. When your student registers for orientation, he or she will only see open orientation dates in the Wolverine Access registration system.
If your student is unable to attend one of the orientation dates during the summer, he or she will be required to attend the Final Fall Orientation program (TBD for 2019). Click on the “Final Fall Orientation” link at left to learn more about the Parent & Family Orientation program offered during Final Fall Orientation.
Ann Arbor Art Fair
In July, the streets of Ann Arbor are taken over by the Ann Arbor Art Fair. This event draws over 500,000 people annually. The 2018 fair runs from Thursday, July 18 through Sunday, July 21. Programs that begin the days preceeding and following the art fair may be affected; guests who select from these orientation dates (TBD) should be prepared for large crowds, extensive street closures throughout much of Ann Arbor, limited parking, and higher than normal parking fees. Hotel arrangements need to be made as early as possible as hotel rooms in Ann Arbor will fill quickly.
