The University of Michigan believes that family members play a significant role in a transfer student’s adjustment to a new university.
The Office of New Student Programs offers Transfer Parent & Family Orientation to provide information and resources that can help families throughout their transfer student’s transition to Michigan. Transfer Parent & Family Orientation sessions are offered on selected dates for transfer students admitted to Fall or Winter terms.
The M-Parent Website is the University’s gateway for parents. Like a roadmap of the University, the M-Parent Website helps to guide parents and family members and provides advice, campus updates, and links to resources. If your transfer student is also leaving home for the first time, we encourage you to visit the section called Parent and Family Resources. Although designed for families of freshmen, families of transfer students who are leaving home for the first time will also find some helpful information about how to prepare for the transition and what to expect.
The University of Michigan's Parents & Family Weekend is coordinated by Student Life. Parents & Family Weekend is open to all undergraduate families and provides an opportunity for families to visit campus, enjoy campus activities, and spend time with their Michigan student.
