Thank you for supporting your student’s decision to attend the University of Michigan, and welcome to the Michigan family. The Office of New Student Programs offers several programs and resources for family members of University of Michigan students, and we encourage you to explore this site to learn more about our programs. The following topics may be of special interest to you:
Parent & Family Orientation provides family members with comprehensive information you will need as your student makes the transition to the University of Michigan. Programs are offered for families of freshmen, transfer students, and international students, depending on your student’s term of admission.
The Office of New Student Programs manages the University-wide M-Parent website, which serves as the main gateway for parents to access University of Michigan information. Families of new students are encouraged to click on “Your New Student” for tips and advice on managing the first year at Michigan.
The Office of New Student Programs publishes the annual Parent & Family Calendar, which is distributed to families of new students at orientation. Families of continuing students who wish to receive an updated calendar may purchase one if supplies are available in September.
AUGUST 2019 UPDATE: Due to the size of the incoming class of freshmen and transfer students, we do NOT anticipate having extra calendars to sell to families of continuing students this fall. If you wish to know the academic calendar dates, visit ro.umich.edu/calendars for information about class start and end dates, breaks, and final exam periods.
Preparing Your Wolverine E-Newsletters
The Office of New Student Programs sends electronic newsletters to parents of incoming freshmen each April-August. Newsletters address topics related to a student's transition to college. Parents will automatically receive these emails if your student entered your email address on their application for admission. Once your student has started classes, parents and family members may receive the Family Matters E-Newsletter produced by Student Life.
