The Welcome to Michigan program is a cross campus collaboration of events and activities with the goal of helping new students make a successful transition to the university community.

Wednesday, Aug. 21 (Student Move-in)

Trivia Night 
Rogel Ballroom- Michigan Union, 8-10 p.m.

Experience the thrill of friendly competition at U-M’s Trivia Night, an event designed to unite students through a shared love for knowledge and school spirit. Gather in the Michigan Union Rogel Ballroom to test your trivia skills, meet new people, and kick off the academic year with some Wolverine fun!

Game Night 
Pierpont Commons, 8-10 p.m.

Get ready for a fun night of strategy, laughter, and connection at Game Night! Join us at Pierpont Commons for a wide selection of board games, cards, and video games. It's the perfect opportunity to break the ice and make new friends.

Thursday, Aug. 22 (Student Move-in)

Ice Cream Social 
North Campus Gerstacker Grove, 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Delight in the simple pleasure of ice cream at the Welcome to Michigan Ice Cream Social on North Campus, where new friendships are just as plentiful as the sundae toppings. Join us for this cool and creamy tradition that serves up scoops of fun and a warm, welcoming environment for all students.

Movie Night 
Central Campus Diag, 8:30-10:30 p.m.

Experience the magic of outdoor cinema in the heart of the Diag. Join fellow students for a relaxing evening of blockbuster entertainment and sweet treats.

Friday, Aug. 23 (Student Move-in)

Artscapade 
University of Michigan Museum of Art (UMMA), 6-9 p.m.

The Arts Initiative and U-M Museum of Art celebrate Welcome to Michigan by introducing students to the wide array of ways to participate in the arts on campus with an evening of art-making, live music, dance and poetry, games, and prizes.

Saturday, Aug. 24

Go North! Block Party 
North Campus Gerstacker Grove, 2-5 p.m.

The Center for Campus Involvement (CCI) takes over North Campus to welcome students! Activities will take place outdoors in the heart of North Campus and also in the Pierpont Commons general spaces. These will include novelties, games, snacks, and other interactive elements.

Escapade 
Michigan Union, 8-11 p.m.

CCI welcomes all students to the Michigan Union for a night of performances, food, and fun activities! This will also introduce students to the Michigan Union’s services and spaces. Get a taste of all the University Unions have to offer at this event. 

Sunday, Aug. 25

New Student Convocation 
Crisler Center, 4 p.m.

New Student Convocation marks the official beginning of a student's college experience. Join your fellow new Wolverines, student leaders, faculty, staff, deans, executive officers, and regents at this annual ceremony. Show up early to pick up your fall 2024 t-shirt!

Block M Class Photo 
Michigan Stadium, 5:30 p.m.

Directly following New Student Convocation, join your fellow new Wolverines and bring your smile to the Block M Class Photo in Michigan Stadium. Make participating in this unique and school spirited photo opportunity part of your Welcome to Michigan experience!  

New Student Picnic 
Hatcher Library Portico, 6:15 p.m.

Following the Block M Big Photo, join your classmates for a picnic in the Diag. Look for volunteers and follow the group walking back to Central Campus for the picnic. The New Student Picnic is open to all new Wolverines. 

Welcome Wellness 
Michigan Union, 7-9 p.m.

Kick off the academic year with a focus on your well-being at Welcome Wellness, an event designed to center students' mental, physical, and emotional health as they embark on a new semester at the University of Michigan. Take part in stress-reducing activities, wellness workshops, and connect with campus health resources to ensure a balanced and successful start to your school journey.

Monday, Aug. 26 (First Day of Class)

Party for Your Mind 
Shapiro Library, 2-4 p.m.

Welcome to the library and to campus! We invite all U-M students to the library's annual Party For Your Mind (P4YM). Learn more about all that the library has to offer...and have fun! We'll be waiting for you inside and outside the Shapiro Library, where you can: 

  • Grab library info, swag, and more from our information tables
  • Devour some free pizza
  • Mark your hometown on our world map, and learn where your fellow students are from
  • Free The Wolverine in an escape room adventure
  • Design at an arts and crafts table
  • Get your palm read
  • Play a video game
  • Take a selfie with our giant Block M (we'll help)

Festifall - North

Over 650 student organizations, campus departments, and community vendors will be participating over the two days of the program with the first day taking place on North Campus. Festifall is the one of the best ways to explore opportunities, discover community, connect with student leaders, and get involved at U-M!

Join us for the annual Student Kickoff Rally at the Big House! Learn the time-honored traditions, chants, and cheers for athletics events; hear from members of the football team and other Michigan Athletics programs, and get ready for another exciting season!

Friday, Aug. 30

Rec Sports Expo and Well-being Festival 
Palmer Field, 3-6 p.m.

Join us for the Rec Sports Expo & Well-being Festival and “Move your way to well-being!” Enjoy an afternoon of games, giveaways, music, food and fun! The festival takes place on Palmer Field right next to Couzens, Mosher-Jordan (MoJo) and Stockwell residence halls. It is a great way to check out all that Rec Sports has to offer and meet our friends from M Dining, Wolverine Wellness and many more.

Go Blue Mix 
Ingalls Mall, 7-11 p.m.

Dive into the vibrant energy of Go Blue Mix, the inaugural extravaganza for the UMix Late Night series, offering a thrilling zipline, bumper cars, inflatables, and carnival games for an unforgettable evening at the University of Michigan. Personalize your maize and blue experience at the airbrush artist's station with custom hats and fanny packs, and refuel with delicious eats from the food truck on site.

Saturday, Aug. 31

Game Day at the Union 
Front Lawn Michigan Union, 4-7 p.m.

Gear up for game day at the Michigan Union with a pre-kickoff celebration before our National Champs take on Fresno State. We'll have free food and a chance for you to Spin-2-Win some swag to get you ready for the big game. Join fellow fans in the heart of campus for this spirited rally full of energy, camaraderie, and Wolverine pride. Go Blue!

Post Game Bite 
Michigan Union, 10:30 p.m.-midnight

Come unwind and celebrate after the game at Post-game Bite, the go-to destination at the Michigan Union for every Wolverine to enjoy free food and exclusive swag. It's the perfect spot to keep the team spirit alive, share in the game's highlights, and indulge in some post-game revelry with fellow students.

Sunday, Sept. 1

Pride Outside 
Ingalls Mall, 2-4:30 p.m.

Pride Outside is an annual LGBTQ+ centric welcome event, providing a space for new and returning students to celebrate the beginning of fall semester with a drag show, student performances, campus resource fair, yard games, t-shirt giveaways, and more. With partners from oSTEM and Michigan Engineering, this event is one of Spectrum Center’s largest and sets a positive, energetic, and community tone for the academic year.

Taste of Michigan 
Ingalls Mall, 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Taste of Michigan is an opportunity for students to taste offerings from local Ann Arbor eateries with yard games, a DJ, and giveaways! 

Monday, Sept. 2 (Labor Day)

Residence Halls Association (RHA) After Class Bash 
Ingalls Mall, 4-7 p.m.

RHA's After Class Bash is hosted by RHA, the student government of the on-campus residential population. RHA will host an evening of fun that allows residents to socialize while connecting them with other important campus departments/organizations. RHA will give out free swag, food, drinks, and other merchandise. In addition to our fun giveaways, residents can expect bounce houses, yard games, and a-maize-ing music!


Party in the Park 
North Campus Gerstacker Grove, noon-3 p.m.

Party in the Park is a welcome event for off-campus students, hosted on North Campus. Join us for live music, delicious food, games, prizes, and a resource fair with campus partners!
