Start your orientation day and get energized for the day ahead.
8-9 a.m. — Eat and Greet at the Alumni Center
Visit the Alumni Center to enjoy a special treat from Zingerman’s Delicatessen and learn how the Alumni Association supports students on campus.
9-9:15 a.m. — Go Blue Welcome
Join your Wolverine for the kickoff to your in-person orientation activities. During this session, you will meet our orientation leaders (OLs), learn about our campus values and traditions, and find out more about the opportunities and activities that will occur today.
9:15-9:30 a.m. — Welcome to Student Life at Michigan
Join Student Life leaders and learn ways your student can make the most of their campus experience. We’ll cover how to: meet people and build community, find ways to get involved, and how to get help when things don’t go as planned. We’re here to help your student find community and support to feel at home from day one.
9:30-9:45 a.m. — Division of Public Safety and Security
The University of Michigan Division of Public Safety & Security is dedicated to providing a safe and secure environment for all U-M students, faculty, and staff, with an emphasis on community outreach, prevention, and education.
9:45-10 a.m. — Michigan Housing: Preparing To Move to Your New Home
The logistics of moving to a new home may seem complicated or overwhelming. This presentation will answer some of the common questions new residents (and their families) have as they prepare to move to Ann Arbor.
10-10:15 a.m. — Student Small Group Dismissal
While students engage in small group discussions and presentations that will acquaint them with campus life and resources, parents and family members will attend separate sessions focused on supporting their student’s transition to Michigan.
10:15-11 a.m. — Key Conversations
This session will cover important topics related to student life and well-being on campus and address top public health concerns for college students, including healthy relationships, alcohol and other drug use, and mental health and well-being. It will frame these topics around how you, as a parent or family member of an incoming student, can lend ongoing support and guidance to your student as they acclimate to U-M’s campus.
11-11:15 a.m. — Travel to Academic Unit Time
OLs will direct you to your next session in groups organized by your student’s academic unit.
11:30 a.m.-12:15 p.m. — Academic Unit Time
In this session, you will have the opportunity to hear an overview of your student’s school or college.
12:15-12:30 p.m. — Travel to Lunch
OLs will direct you to a nearby dining hall for lunch.
12:30-1:15 p.m. — Lunch in a Dining Hall
Join fellow parents, family members, and OLs for lunch in one of our residential dining facilities.
1:15-1:30 p.m. — Travel to Your Next Session
OLs will direct you to your next session.
1:45-2:15 p.m. — Partnering for Your Wolverine’s Success
In this session, parents and family members will learn how Student Life supports your student’s Michigan experience and partners with you for their success.
2:15-2:30 p.m. — Health and Well-being at Michigan
College health plays a critical role in the retention, progression, and graduation of students. The University of Michigan offers a comprehensive range of public health-informed mental health and well-being resources, supported by dedicated and compassionate professionals, to meet the diverse needs of our students. All services are conveniently located near where students live, learn, and work.
2:30-3:15 p.m. — Wolverine Networks
Meet fellow parents and family members of new Wolverines in an opportunity to build a network of support. Swap stories and exchange tips while writing personalized postcards to your students.
3:15-3:20 p.m. — Travel to Campus Connections
OLs will help direct you to Campus Connections where you can reunite with your student.
3-4:30 p.m. — Campus Connections
For the remainder of the program we invite you to use the time to attend our resource fair and campus resource sessions.
3-4:15 p.m. — Resource Fair / MCard Pickup
3:30-3:50 p.m. — Campus Resource Sessions I
3:55-4:15 p.m. — Campus Resource Sessions II
4:15-5 p.m. — Wolverine Experiences
Use the final portion of the day to tailor your orientation experience. You may attend a campus tour, visit campus offices during open houses, meet with the Office of Financial Aid, take a North Campus bus tour, or explore campus on your own. Once you’ve completed your activities, you are free to depart. Most offices close at 5 p.m.
